Fujimi Sauber C30 Monaco GP (w/ engine)
I started working on this back in February but it was put aside while working on other projects. This is the Monaco GP version and will be built with a removable engine cover. The engine isn't anything to write home about but I may end up adding some detail to it.
I started by doing the usual prep work on the body followed by primer, Tamiya TS-26 white, and X10 gunmetal after masking with Fujimi's included masking template. This was all the progress I made until this past weekend. More to follow

Nice start! We don't see this one built often enough. Are you going to go with Perez or Kobayashi?

Thanks! I only saw 2 WIP threads on here for different variations of this kit. I'll be doing Kobayashi's car.whatisdeletrazdoing wrote:Nice start! We don't see this one built often enough. Are you going to go with Perez or Kobayashi?

Great work on the sanding. This is what threw me off with this kit. Have a bit of a rough white coat on it and I'm not sure if I should just start over or deal with it.

Re: Fujimi Sauber C30 Monaco GP (w/ engine)
This is what I've done since Sunday. I sprayed the body parts with clear, then started to apply the decals. The decals are very thin and respond well to Micro-sol. I applied more decals last night but haven't taken photos yet. The "Sauber Club One" decal was probably the most difficult decal I've ever had to deal with! The red stripes went on fairly easily and lined up perfectly with the color separation line. The included masking tape is not pre-cut. It needs to be cut out very carefully with a fresh #11 blade.
I also assembled the front wing endplates and winglets before painting them semi gloss black. Fujimi supplied white decals that go on the winglets and they happen to be fairly opaque. I could just paint these parts white and use masking tape to paint the black areas, but this is more of a fun build for me and I'm not overly concerned about it. I might use carbon fiber decals on the suspension, floor, engine bay, and rear wing endplates. Applying them to the winglets/etc will be too time consuming.

Re: Fujimi Sauber C30 Monaco GP (w/ engine)
Another update on the C30. I have finished decaling the body and wing elements. The front wing 'winglets' look pretty good with the white decals over a black base. I did have trouble with the front wing mainplane decal. It may need to be stripped and sprayed white because I used a little too much micro-sol and stretched out and wrinkled the decal. These decals actually respond better to warm water than Micro-sol. As a result, I'm looking for a replacement "Action for road safety" decal. And I noticed the Sauber logo on the front nose is upside down but I can live with that!
These parts will get a nice coat of 2K clear soon.
I have finally made a decision to apply carbon fiber decals to the suspension arms, floor, cockpit, wing endplates, and the engine bay. The gearbox is already assembled so it might be a little difficult to make templates, but I actually managed to get away with decaling the assembled gearbox on my Ferrari F60 build, so I shouldn't have too much trouble.
Here are some pics of the body and wing elements.
