WIP - Larrousse LC90

Post by CK »

Hi,

I have been working on several kits for a long time. Basically, the process is almost zero as my work has taken up a lot of my energy. After seeing people want to see more WIP, I decided to give it a try. By posting a WIP, it may give me the push to finish them.

Here are the three that I want to complete.

First it is a Ferrari 458. The kit is from Revell. It is not a bad kit but with some errors. The car sits abit too high. So I change the suspension a bit to lower the car by about 2 mm. There is some problem with the body and need some touch up painting.

Second is the Larrouse LC90. It is a Hasegawa 1/24 kit. There is some problem between the cowling and the body that needs a lot of putty and filing to make it match.

Third is the Red Bull BR9 from Revell in 1/24. I intend to build it OOB but can't help changing it. I still hope to minimize the changes and get it done.

I've been in exactly the same position and putting a WIP on here has helped me push on a bit. Hope you get the same encouragement. Nice selection of builds, the Larousse is my favourite. Interesting to see what you can make of it.

Finally, the Christmas break comes so I have some time for my model building. It has been a crazy year at work that sucks up most of my energy.

I re-painted the Ferrari 458 body. It looks OK but not that smooth. So this means a lot of polishing when the paint really dries. This will be a couple weeks from now.

I also put the Ferrari logo decals on the intake plenum. It is quite tricky as they are on top of the raise letters but the size are not quite the same. I also scrape out the black paint on the bottle on the side of the engine cover. It looks pretty good.

I will work on the clear parts next. I also will sand down the Larrousse body for a base coat paint.

Happy New Year!

I have rubbed through some of the paint on the roof and the hood on the Ferrari 458. I was frausrated that it needed another paint job. so I put it aside and turned my work on the Larrousse LC90. Through last year and this year, I have worked on the suspension, exhaust and body work. I will pose the progress in a couple of days.

Here are the work that I did on the suspensions. Hasegawa really makes the suspension arm flimsy. One of the low front suspension A arm broke in 2 places and the other one broke right at the joint to the body when I dry fitting them. Luckly, I glue them with Testor liquid glue and they look like new again.

I cut the pushrod for the front into left and right as the kit join the two sides in the middle. It makes the assembly work easier. I have to put a tube inside the nose to hold them together.

The rear pullrod with the spring and shocks were modified to make them look better.

Some more work done on the kit.

The exhaust pipes need a lot of clean up work to make them look individual pipes rather than all fused into a blob.

The pullrod and shocks were assembled onto the gearbox. The gearbox was given a dark gunmetal coat and the rear suspension arms a semigloss black coat. some bolts on the gearbox were highlighted with silver paint. The cleaned exhaust pipes were also attached to the engine.

A new oil cooler was scratch built because the kit cooler is too small.

I am still working on the engine cover and body. There are a lot of correction to make them fit.
