Really fantastic work you're doing here. The c.f. decals look super realistic, and the paint job is great to boot. Keep up the great work, looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari SF70H
As always, thanks for the comments everyone!
I ran into an issue when test fitting the gearbox into engine cowling. It requires that you gently widen the engine cowling to allow the gearbox in. The fit is soooo tight though, when I tried it, the two halves of the cowling split much to my dismay. I was able to glue it back with not much issue, although there is now a small seam running down the ride side near the shark fin. I'm hoping this will be less noticeable when I apply clear.
The endless decal process continues - probably another week or so until the decals are done. Undeniably coming together though:
I think the front wing CF decals are critical. Such a subtle look but it makes all the difference
Big numbering used Monaco onwards, curtesy of Tabu
The shell decals were not too cooperative, I ended up with some small folds on both sides. This was the worst though
Hoping I'll be able to sand it back after clearing.

Lovely work
Immaculate front wing
Sorry about the crack, the pains of modeling, have had several similar occurrences but I think with the fit of Tamiya parts you can overcome

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari SF70H
It's been a small while - the decals successfully drove me crazy so I took a bit of a break and just applied 2-3 decals per day. After finishing all of the body decals I'm finally ready to apply clear; the most intimidating part of the process for me.
I plan on pausing between the first tack coat to paint the rivets black, and I guess pausing between coats to sand the edges of decals flush? I'm not really sure how to do that best to be honest, tips would be appreciated
After applying all the clear, I'll be applying semi-gloss black and more carbon decals where required on the body, followed by Alclad Light Sheen. At least that's the plan anyways. Still quite a mountain to climb.

Oh no what happened? God 2K scares me so much because of how tough it is to fix any mistakes. Talk about a double-edged sword. I think I'd cry if something major happened at this point.R.Wells wrote:Looking very nice!!! Mine did not make it past the clear coat stage.

Wow. The amount of work that that model requires is unbelievable! Stunning work and it looks close to done to me. Looking forward to more updates.

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari SF70H
Thanks for the kind words! Honestly this kit is so deceiving, at every step it looks like you've accomplished so much but then you list the things you still need to do and it's overwhelming. I mean the CF decals definitely made it 3x the total effort, I hope it's worth it in the end. I can't wait to go back to 80's and 90's cars where the CF decals will feel like child's play by comparison.CelicaGT wrote:Wow. The amount of work that that model requires is unbelievable! Re: Tamiya 1/20 Ferrari SF70H
Great work ! I don't have 100% bullet proof advise on 2K, even though I have used it successfully many times.
You'll have to learn it from experience working with your own air brush and playing with pressure ant mixture
ratio. I use 100% + 50% + 25% mixture of clear/hardener/thinner for Zero 2K clear and spray at 25-26 PSI. Ex:
100ml of clear + 50ml of hardener + (150/4)ml of thinner. But again, you might find different mixture ratio of
thinner work better for you.
Only thing I can advise is to make a dummy, that would simulate your real model and practice on it first, before
you take a leap and apply clear to your precious model.
