Hi Chris,

What a gorgeous result you have here !! Your wonderful looking 97T must have given you a great deal of satisfaction, so congratulations on getting it done.

I particularly like the CF work on the wing elements. Just the right amount of shine.

If I may offer one slight suggestion, it would be to add a thin acrylic wash onto the wheels and the tyre sidewalls to dull down the shine - they're too clean !!

Excellent results Chris, what's next ?

Hello my friend,

thank you very much to your kind words. You are totally right regarding the weels, but I like this obsessive shine of the wheels. Its one of the eyecatcher of this model. these wheels are the best i've ever used on a model.I think about adding a slight wash on the wheel side to tone down the goodyear markings..

My next model is not a comission build, i will build for my own the most important car of senna (imho) it will be the MP4/5b in 1/12
I bought it together with the 97t

congratulations, this is one of the best models shown here in the forum. I especially admire the fantastic clear coat and would like asking, how you managed the boarder free clear coat around the decals. Are the decals extreme flat or do you have a special method of clear coating or sanding process?
Kepp on building those models.

hello ferrarissimus,

thank you very much for kind words. The answer to your questions is the coating process.
1st step is base color,
2dn step first layer (thin layer) of clear coat

carefully sanding...

3rd step applying the decals
4th step second layer of clear coat, good explanation is on the zero paints website, i work as recommended..

- first layer (only thin and not wet)
- 6 minutes later (more heavier and only a bit wet)
- further 6 minutes later (coating wet)

After that it is time for the first sanding session, beginning with 1200 grid ending with 12000 grid. Concerning the Lotus my sanding session lasts 3 hours.. and took 100 litres of water

5th step is the final clear coat.. (a bit heavier)

Now it is time for the final sanding and polishing, procedure is the same as mentioned above.
During the final sanding session you have to brave but not over ambitious

There will be scratches, it is impossible to prevent.. but the appear only in direct light in the dark, and these scratches are very tiny... the natural light on the day shows the smooth and shiny surface, without scratches. Even a Rolls Royce with a 12 layer coating and hand polished body have these tiny scratches..

Fantastic!!! The fit and finish of your model is probably nicer than the 1:1 car!
