WIP: Brabham BT46 US GP 1978 Niki Lauda

There are so many For Sale threads and only few WIPs recently. So, I've decided to start yet another build, despite having more then
5 ongoing. Nah, just kidding. Have different reasons of course. Read below.

With multiple challenging builds in progress, I felt I needed something that would go together rather well. I've looked at my line up of
completed and in progress models and all I could see were pretty much Lotus, McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari cars. Then I looked through
my pile of kits and realized that I have 3 models of Brabham BT46 car variations and I thought Tamiya BT46 would fit the bill perfectly.
Having instructions from 1/12 MFH kit as a reference is a big asset for this new build. I also have PE set from Studio27, which looks to
be quite useful. I actually managed to get myself hyped about this model quit a bit. First it is different from my usual subjects. Second - it's
Tamiya engeniring and should go together well. Third - it's surprisingly detailed and gives a great base for moderately detailed project,
which is perfect for my current skill level. Spent last few days gathering references, studding them and MFH's 1/12 kit instructions, and
doing my usual build plan. And finally last night I was able to start it. Not much to show at present, just a bunch of parts separated from
trees. Going to prep parts and do test assembly next.

Hi

You know that there are a lot of differences from the standard kit? Right?

There are a lot of similarities to details from the fancar. Like the 'bulge' behind the driver and the horizontal plates behind the front wheels.

I have looked at references I have and MFH 1/12 kit's instructions and only noticed few differences:
- differences in livery
- different brake cooling ducts
- some differences in oil hose arrangements (not conclusive from references I have)

Would you be willing to elaborate as much as possibly on all the differences you know ?
Will be greatly appreciated.

Sideskirts need to be added and the flat piece that comes off the bottom of the tub needs to be squared off as seen in this pic:

Hi

Here is a couple of pics of the Monza Brabham BT-46. Notice the squared skirt 'thingies' and the grill for the extra cooler behind the triangular rollhoop cover. Notice the diffrence in cooling for the rear brakes on Lauda versus Watson car.. Small added hoses on Lauda car attatched to the scoops versus big hoses on Watson car.

Ok. Not ready to get involved with mods to make late season car. I am convinced to switch to early season version
instead. How about Monaco GP car of Lauda ? Is kit standard configuration close enough ? Do I need to do any mods ?

In the mean time, I have just continued to do basic prep work. Started puttying seams.

Refreshing to see more WIP posts, looking forward to seeing this together as I also have three versions of this car in the stash, the standard car, fan car and the prototype with the side mounted cooling system. Unfortunately the decals for my Tamiya standard kit have yellowed quite a bit with age.
