1/12 Ferrari 330P4

Postby mvc » Fri Mar 17, 2017 4:11 pm

Hi everybody,

On the workbench: the Ferrari 330 P4, '67 Daytona winner, #23 driven by Amon/Bandini. This is my first MFH project, so I expect it to bring a bunch of totally new challenges.

So far I have only been cleaning, filing, sanding, drilling and bending the metal parts. Some parts looked like a ball of white-metal spaghetti out of the box, and need a lot of attention because it is not always clear what the intended shape is. I have heard people blame the shrink wrap plastic for the deformations, but I don't believe that: some parts require quite some force to bend back into shape and are way too strong to be deformed by shrink wrap plastic alone.

At the moment, my intention is to build the car as good and clean as possible out of the box, but who knows what opportunities for improvement arise :) From the start it is very clear to me that it is most important to plan far ahead and do a lot of test fitting before anything else.

Anyway, this is what it looks like right now:

A few questions already for you experienced MFH builders:
- is it possible/advisable to keep the polished bare metal for the chassis, or does the shine fade over time?
- what do you use as a filler, does milliput work?
- I read a lot about Araldite glue. Is it really about Araldite (the brand), or can any epoxy glue do the job?

Thanks for watching,

Marcus

I like the bare metal personally

Others complain about the color

I have not noticed any tarnishing of any of my kits

You don't have to clear coat

I will be subscribing too

The biggest headache for me was the attachment of the engine and tranny and rear end assy to the front bulkhead, was not strong enough

Thanks for following, but don't expect fast progress please :)

@Alex, how did you manage to solve the engine attachment problem?

Oh hell yeah, Marcus doing the Daytona winning P4? Grab a big bucket of your favourite snack and have a
seat. So we'll get a nice lesson of what is possible with this baby. And it is going to be an OOB build? Yeah
right, keep telling yourself that - ain't gonna happen :D. As with the Matra I will be grabbing all pics for
future reference, just in case I can find motivation to have a go at my #23 once your build is done.
Cheers,
Roman
