Hi Folks,

wkuert, Been down on the floor a lot on this project :D :D

Harvey, Thank you for that sir!!

Icon, Sorry to disappoint :D

gavrob, Appreciate those kind words as I am a big fan of your work!

Thank you Christian!

gp models, Glad you like it. I learn a lot from the builders on this forum!

Hi Marcus, You had to go and make mine look crude

Thank you Rocky!

Update,
The GT40 utilized a "transaxle hoop" at the rear of the chassis tub. The transaxle, rear suspension and the rear clip framework all were attached to it.
On the 1:1 car it was made up of steel stampings then had the sheet metal of the tub welded to it.

some ref. pics...

Which type of soldering iron do you use mainly or do you have a soldering station?
I think it is hard to solder thick brass parts, do you use a special flux for it?
Very interesting work your doing, i love metal works :)

Hi Folks,

Thank you Rocky !!

gp-models, thank you and here are a couple of pics of what I use.....

Image

Image

The solders that I use are (from left to right in the photo)..

Tix Solder.....melts at a very low temperature....weakest joints of the three solders.
Stay- Brite....slightly higher melting point....a little more strength to the joint
Novak Silver Solder...highest melting point of the three...strongest joints

I use 'Tix Flux ' for all three solders...liquid that is applied with a small brush (just like Tamiya Thin glue)

The variable temp pencil iron is what I use for most jobs. The torch comes in handy for larger sheet goods.

This is what works for me but there are many options out there. A resistance soldering unit like my friend Pete J, uses would be the next upgrade for me.

To bring this thread up to date.....

Building up the rear uprights, the lower wishbones and the trailing links....
