Tyrrell P34, Matchbox
I am actually building a F1 car. Not so large but at least I'm building.
Matchbox 1/32 scale kit. The box says it is an Canada GP car but as far as I can tell this configuration was only used at South Africa and Long Beach races.

Hello Björn,
Excellent project , I have this kit, and then I will follow this with a great interest.
How did you remove the chrome on the chassis, for my model I think to use product for cleaning the oven?
Cheers
Franck

Re: Tyrrell P34, Matchbox
Sweeeet memories !
my first car kit as a kid, with a BAC lightning from Airfix. Should find one just for fun.
At that time, I thought that decals had to be cut and glued on the kit. but the blue background and thickness didn't convince me at that time, there was something wrong !!!!! !!!! (hey I was 8/9 ok ?)

Re: Tyrrell P34, Matchbox
These kits are not bad...I have a few in the pile...the P34, the Surtees, and the L&M 917...with a little detail added, for their size and time released(by Airfix as well) you can get a good result. I have an Entex 1/32 Tyrrell Ford transport that I plan on doing a Watkins Glen dio someday with the P34 and Surtees kits I have...

Re: Tyrrell P34, Matchbox
I started one of those years ago but got tripped up trying to mask off and paint the cowling . I will be very interested to see how you accomplish it! Hopefully you have a better idea than mine so I can borrow said idea!

I have one of these too....and the Auto Union.
Matchbox were THE kits when I was a kid....I started with aircraft, where they had the "Purple" range for about $1.79..moulded in 2 colours (so you didn't HAVE to paint them...ahem) then the bigger "orange" range...3 colour and about $2.20, then there was a third range, as well as 1/76 armour and the 1/32 cars. I remember having a catelogue that was well thumbed with ticks next to the kits I had and crosses next to the ones I wanted (most of the others!).The only car I has then was the Matchbox sponsored Surtees. Later I had their 1/32 Messerschmitt 109 which I remember as quite a nice kit.
Those were the days!

Mask off and paint? I don't understand what you are saying. This is Matchbox. No painting necessary it used to say on the boxes..
I removed the chrome with oven cleaner.
I wouldn't mind having a second car and the Entex transporter. I have to keep an eye on ebay.

The masking will probably be harder to do on this car than car on the 1/20 but it could be good training.I removed the chrome with oven cleaner.
