Hi to all.
Before I start can I just say what a fantastic forum this is, there are some really talented people on it.
Back to the model. I don't usually do this type of model but I got the urge to fulfill a childhood longing from 20+ years ago and build one of the Tamiya large scale F1 cars and so I have started on the 1/12 Mclaren MP4/6. The plan is to go all out and build it to the very best I can so after a couple of months research I now have the kit, Formula Perfect Manual, Perfect Parts upgrade kit (not quite expensive enough - but superb. On a note if anyone has the Perfect Parts brake kit or a Thunder Valley one that they would like to sell I would be very interested) and loads of bolts from Hiroboy, Bestbalsakits and RB Motion, AN fittings, CF decals, Studio 27 Fill in decals and the colour matched red paint from Hiroboy. I have also a request in for the Thunder Valley kits but we are all aware of the problems Paul is having, lets hope he can get them all rectified soon.
Progress so far has been to make some of the small detail parts I want to ad as a way of getting some practice and I have started the engine. One of the major things I want to do is make the front nose section removable from the tub as the real car. This means that the steering in the kit just won't do so I have scratch built the steering rack as the pictures below. Its non functional but it looks much better. I did come up with a design that would work and turn the steering wheel but it was so fragile I didn't bother with it. I have also scratch built the foot pedals and all the pistons behind them. I have detailed some of the smaller parts for the fuel system and made a good start on getting the engine together. I have been avoiding the Perfect Parts Kit until I am a little more confident.
Thanks for taking the time to look. Progress may be slow for the next week or so as I am off to the Isle of Man TT but I will try to get regular updates on as I go for those interested. Comments welcomed.
