A legend passes

Post by OultonPark »

Sir Stirling Moss: Motor racing legend dies aged 90 after long illness https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/52261216

One of the truly great drivers, rated by Fangio as one of the best. I think that’s praise enough.

RIP Stirling

Farewell and thank you Sir Stirling. A truly legendary British driver who made the World Championship meaningless by his brilliance. Regarded by his peers as easily the best of his era and probably the first truly professional driver in his approach to his sport. Surely the most versatile driver ever (apologies to Mario Andretti!). An icon of British life from the 50s up to now. He was still at his peak when he was so gravely injured at Goodwood at this time of year in 1962. Imagine Stirling competing against Jimmy Clark at his best... My condolences to Lady Moss.

Sir Stirling Moss. What can one say? A truly great driver, competitor and most importantly the perfect example of an English gentleman! An example for others in the sport and in life to admire and strive to emulate.

Stirling Moss' death is a loss of one of my early driving heroes. I admired his versatility, Mario another for the same reason.

Godspeed Sir Stirling.

Joe.

I didn't realize he was sick for quite a while. One of the great. He will be missed.

sad news :(

At Goodwood FOS 2014 I happened to be walking around the Mercedes paddock, when Sir Stirling arrived. There was a little bit of frenzy to get closer to him, such was his allure. It was a privilege to see him up close and to see the impact he still had on the public.

A true icon of our sport, the first professional in so many ways. Didn't need a title to cement his reputation as one of the all time greats and nobody else could use the word 'crumpet' as well Sir Stirling Moss.
