I just read Bill Simpson, the founder of the self named company (helmets, gloves, suits, chutes for drags...) has died at 79.
RIP.
His company (that he eventually left) products have contributed to sport's safety, saved quite a few lives, and are part of motorsport history.
You guys in the States now much more about him no doubt.
Me, I remember having made a few of his helmets, particularly the "badass" Bandit...

Re: MEMORY LANE: Mr. SIMPSON
Thats sad. He was a great man, and the attacks made against him after Earnhardt died were absolutely ridiculous and unwarranted. He was forced out because of the lies told about the cause of Earnhardts death (seat belts ripped), when the reality was that Dale didn't like his belts being tight, and NASCAR had been ignoring the safety concerns caused by the deaths of Tony Roper, Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr.
Re: MEMORY LANE: Mr. SIMPSON
Yep, I read the main reason was that Dale was not using a HANS...

Simpson's book "Racing Safely, Living Dangerously" is a good read if you like motorsport books.
