1:12 312T Decals

Post by BigF1fan »

I have an original Issue Tamiya 1:12 Ferrari 312T. Looking do replace the original decals (beyond usable). My question is, who's replacement decals are better/more user friendly Indycals or Tabu? Any opinions or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I also have the same decision to make in the near future. You mention "user friendly" in your question. The Tabu are silk screen printed, so you don't have to accurately cut them from the sheet. Indycals are one solid decal, requiring skillful trimming especially around the striping. However, I like how Michael made the numbering decals for the airbox and nose all one piece, eliminating the PITA of getting the numbers centered and spaced properly within the square. This will likely tip the scale towards Indycals. Plus, Michael will replace some of the decals if you mess them up!

Worth mentioning that Indycals international service is superb. I'm in the UK and have bought from Michael several times.

Hi All,

I can only underline the previous favourable comments for Michael Portaro's service from Indycals.

I have purchased several decal sheets from Indycals over the years and have enjoyed excellent service every time.

Each decal sheet arrives suitably protected in a cardboard sandwich. The print quality of each decal has been superb - perfect colour register and opacity, which speaks volumes about Michael's printing standards.

I cannot comment about Tabu decals as I have never used them, but Studio 27 decals are also excellent quality.

Cheers, Paul

I've got a sheet of Indycal decals for my current build.

I live in the UK and would second (or third …) the brilliant service and attention to packaging etc given by Michael.

But one thing concerns me and that is how careful/close do you have to be when cutting out the decals. I'm pretty good at cutting out squares/rectangles (I can use a ruler almost as well as anyone!). But the circular decals - that really bothers me, although I accept it may be easier than I think when I finally get around to it.

Best wishes
Malcolm
