1993/1994... tyres in 1:12??
Hello guys,
I just bought a Intermodelli F93A 1:12 resin kit. i did not receive it yet but everywhere on the net i read that the tyres are almost not useable, very poor quality.
Do you guys now if it is possible to buy MFH (FW16 or MP4/8) tyres separate??
Or maybe other ideas?
I can make a mold from tamiya tyres and make the rear ones more narrow. but if i can buy tyres somewhere it is way more easy.
Thanks in advance.
Hein

I have made these tires in resin for my own kits because the originals melted into liquid black goop. I made them for the 1/12 1995 Ferrari 412T2 (Museum Collection), and these are the same tire dimensions for all cars from 1993-1997 as Goodyear was the standard F1 tire back then unless I'm mistaken. I'm also planning on using these for my own F93A also from Intermodelli.
If you like I can cast a new set for you. They cost $40 plus shipping, which is basically the cost it took to make the molds in silicone and cost of resin itself. They are made in halves which need to be bonded together. The masters were 3D printed and then I refined the masters for mold-making.
Lotus79, Banzai, and F40 can comment on how they like them as I just sent them new sets as well (they also needed them for various kits). I'll attach photos on the next post.
Cheers,
AJ

Here are some photos to explain more about how the tires are made, and how they look assembled.

These look really good, I'm not in the market for a set but it's interesting to things like this. Quality work.

Hello AJ,
WOW looks very good!!. I'll first wait for the resin kit to arrive so i can take a look at the kit tyres myself to see if they're really that bad. And i will let you know, 40 bucks sounds perfect for those nice castings. Thanks very much!!

Makes perfect sense to me. The casting quality has actually improved from these examples because those photos are from the first batch I made, and since then I've made new molds (twice actually) as the originals deteriorated after 35-40 castings. The new molds are improved in the locating pins as well as the surface finish, so they are actually better and require less sanding / putty work before paint.

Hey thanks very much guys, that's really kind of you. I'll post some photos of the Version 2 tires later this weekend so that you can see the more-current castings, which have revised pins and fewer air bubble issues. I've been working on improving them.
Best,
AJ
