Re: bestbalsakits releases & ongoing projects
made some progress on the safari 911: i made adjusted shocks for higher ground clearance, got few delicate parts printed by 3rd party. Pictures to follow later.
While doing this, i'm also doing some other stuff.
I'll be drawing the decals for 1/8 Porsche RSR Turbo to fit Eidai Grip and/or Entex kit. Spotmodel is currently printing a colour test to see how these will match other martini decals i had printed by Microscale. If any good, it shouldn't be too long before these decals come available. Of course, there will be adjusted colours & designs on the sheet so you can do your build justice.
Also in the pipeline: something new in 1/12 which also could be upscaled to 1/8 and maybe downscaled to 1/20. Something very specific, but i'm only half way there

Wim, do you realize that your reference photo is of a hand grooved tire and not a Goodyear production tire? Personally I would not use a hand grooved tire as reference because then it is only good for the car the tire is on at the time.

Re: bestbalsakits releases & ongoing projects
Derek,
Japan GP 1976, all full wets were hand grooved as standard rain tires were not sufficient to counter the flood cars were facing.
This (rear) tire is especially for that race, and will fit M23 & P34 (tamiya). Could be used on conversions of existing tamiya's into 312T2, Lotus 77 etc.
I know it won't sell much, but niche is my market, and standard symmetrical tire is too easy to draw & has been done so many times before. I like to avoid paths that have been explored by others allready

Gotcha Wim, Nice Idea. I didn't look that close at your CAD model to notice the unique features. Nice work

Re: bestbalsakits releases & ongoing projects
Added some more side detail and made the Goodyear logo just a little smaller...
Tire has been 3d printed, now i'm using filler to correct small flaws.

Re: bestbalsakits releases & ongoing projects
Wim, UN-Freakin' believable! - this is "EXTREEM Modeling" if I have ever seen it!
The sad part to this story is that I am actually old enough to remember when they used to do the hand
cutting of tires! (I was a teen in the '70s - No Steve!, not the 1870s!)...
Any way, when i fell in love with F1 in 1975, I read an article in "Road & Track" that described this pain-stakingly difficult process that some very skilled mechanics would perform if the conditions warranted it.
Back then, the main source of info for us F1 racing fans in the town of Albuquerque, NM, was from the wonderfully talented writings of Rob Walker. As there was not much in the way of televised coverage (we would always get the "ABC Wide World of Sports" coverage of the Monaco GP, perhaps 15 minutes of it, as the wise folks at ABC felt that some collegiate swim meet from Wisconsin, was more important!)...
Sorry to digress, anyway...the 3D modeling job done here is Mind-Boggling - to say the least!
Fantastic Job - Please let us all know how to get some of these when you have started production.
Thanx again for your commitment to our wonderful hobby!, Kirk
