Re: WIP De Tomaso Ford 505 38 Piers Courage
The airbrushing of the body. In total 12 very thin layers were applied. I use Zero Paints. It stays a little flat, and must be used in combination with the right clearcoat.
I'm very happy with the resulst of this system. I use it for al may body parts.
The nose woth the front wings.
The body.
And the rear wing.
And after removing the masking tape to see if the Zandvoort mod has come out well.
Now I let it dry a few days before adding the decals.
The seat belts painted, added decals and placed in the seat.
The cockpit placed on the chassis.
Here you can see the modification to correct the little fault in the kit.
And after the seat is on its place, this is no longer visible.
The tires on the rims.
To ajust the car to the Zandvoort version, quite some modification was needed.
Here the car as it is in the kit.
And here the Zandvoort version.
The slightly orange peel skin you see, isnt't that. It's typical for the Zero Paint system. When the clearcoat is on, its totally gone.

Some polishing on the white metal mirror toger a chrome look. 12.000 was used. Left ready, right before.
The body clearcoated with the 2K diamond Zero Paints clearcoat. It becomes extreme hard, zo it's easy to handle assembling the kit. The fingerprints you still see here can simply be whiped off.
You can even remove CA when its on this coat with acethon without damaging the clearcoat layer.
That's it for today. Tíll next time. Then we do the fiddly job of the front suspension.

The next update:
First, the rough roll bar.
After some polishing and painting the head rest.
On withe the delicate and complex front suspension. I usually copy and enlarge the manual. This way I can write on it, and save the original one.
How it turned out. I let te pictures speak for themselves. Following the manual.

Cutting out the cockpit window.
In next update the marriage of the chassis, the body and the engine.

Re: WIP De Tomaso Ford 505 38 Piers Courage
The construction and assembly fase.
The fire wall between the body and the engine polished and bend At Zandvoort the fire wall was silver coloured.
The forthcoming marriage between body and chassis.
One of the cooling tubes bend in the right form. Added a black decal on the spot were the tube is on front of the racing number 4. That way the tube doesn't block the number 4.
On with installing the engine with the gearbox and rear wheel suspension on the chassis. Also put one of the cooling pipes in place.
Also put the cooling tube on the left side in place. Also started with the rear spacers. Replaced it with after market silver nickel rods. The have a natural gloss and don't need painting.
And a first attempt to add a black frame for the cockpit window.
All spacers in place.
The polished mirrors on their final destination.
Second try with the cockpit window with frame. Better I think. Also the roll bar installed.
Now the oil reservoir connected with the oil cooler.
A small red metallic cap is to be added.
And installed. Small decal added on the oil reservoir.
In next update the final offensive to the finished model.

Re: WIP De Tomaso Ford 505 38 Piers Courage
Thank you guys for all these kind words. I do make pictures from nearly every step in my builds.
I did this for a small Dutch forum. I learned a lot there from builds from other builders.
In that way I got better over the years. The same here. I already saw builders and projects here which help me to make my modelling better and more detailed.
I recently completed a Tameo WCR Ferrari 500 F2. That build was illustrated with a lot of pictures, over 250, every step of the way. It took me 4 monthts to complete the model.
I’m happy to place it on this forum also if there is an intrest. Next update on the De Tomaso in this threath will show the completion of the build.
I developped a style in using as much as possible from the natural metal colors. Nowadays I usually only pain the body, seats and real coloured parts. All silver, aluminium and other metal colours I make with grade of polishing or using acids to colour the metal.
Offcourse this is only possible with metal kits.
Regards,
Eric Schumacher, Netherlands.

Re: WIP De Tomaso Ford 505 38 Piers Courage
The last update in this build. Lots of pics.
The roll bar supports added. Also after market silver wire.
Test fitting of the wheels. Looking if all is alligned,
And because we never get to see this again. The underside. Lots of details, never to be seen again!!
Fitted on the display base. Always good to see that all four wheels tough the ground.
And last, but not least in the car in the display. A always make add a picture of the car I build as background.
The decal on the wing endplates were there during the race. This picture is from the last training on race day.
And a final correction on the wheel centers.
And with this reply I come to the end of this build.
