Donnington Collection...closing

Post by daniel »

Looks like the Donnington Collection is about to close within the next months. Very sad to hear. This was on my to do list for the near future but the next month is too near.

Maybe our British friends here now more. What will happen to all these cars. I fear they will dissapear in some storage hall like so many other collections.

I also heard and read the current owner, the son of the inventor is kind of strange.....a third reich freak !?! Will need to read this article soon.

So in the end it's sound really sad for all racing fans out there.

I read on Facebook that it will close on november 5th. It’s a damn shame. So sad to see such a great automotive collection like this go. I hope they find a buyer for the museum and keep it open.
Best regards,
Lesley

That is a real shame. This has to be the most important motorsports museum for mainly European racing cars on earth. Sort of like a European Indy museum.

It's a shame, but not a great shock.

I have been there on two occasions, the second and last time being a couple of years ago - there were visibly fewer cars on display than on my first visit and there were already the beginnings of a military vehicle collection and assorted militaria etc in which I had absolutely no interest and I thought at the time it was an odd combination.

Still, it's obviously what floats his boat.

This is really sad news, I have been to the museum dozens of times over the years and it had a fantastic display of Williams and McLaren cars in particular.
Gary, the museum manager was always very helpful and I do hope that he has been transferred to another post rather than made redundant.
