In general it is all about the virtual 3d model in any 3d software.Joaquin wrote:....how do you design the parts to get the correct shape of the body
Most of designers use Rhinoceros, but I use AutoCAD 3d. Most of designers use solid 3d models, but I use wireframe 3d model ...
The unfolding of the skin into 2d is made automatically in Rhinoceros, however, I have to do it manually - just because I don´t want to learn new software.
But the principle is the same - to create 3d model and unfold the skin into flat parts. The exact dividing the surface into parts depends on designer, experience, skills, visions, etc.

Hi irb,
What a wonderful paper model of the FW42! The amount of details is very high.
I find the tyres are made especially good for your model. A lot of paper models of F1 cars that I have seen never really achieve the same look of the tyre side wall as yours. Th curve circular surface is not easy to make. You have done a beautiful job on this.
I would hope that you may produce a Mercedes car in the future

Even made out of paper, it's probably nearly as fast as the real car...
