I think the size is perfect.Only some small changes to the edges have to be made.Thats nothing big.
So we can move on the the next parts.

It is possible - but it will be a bit expensive...

2.project of 3D-Design works with sketchup - making quadfaces for subd...
(i hate overloaded 3d programes with unuasable GUI and need to read and view tons of boring video tuturials...)

Nose:
green = Quadface, blue = triangle
Image

Quadfaces and Subd (Catmull–Clark Subdivision Surface) make a perfect smooth surface.
BTW: one of the vents is not smoothed :D

Rear hood - now adding thickness for 3d printing.

It looks great, when available I would need a Tamiya 935 kt for the remainder???

Thanks,

JOe.

Interesting work. I'm using subD-modeling at work for "soft" stuff mostly and that works fine.
I haven't figured out doing "hard" parts. I recently tried to do a wheel rim but didn't succeed and ended up doing it with surface modeling software again.

Doing soemthing like a car in subdee's is not that easy because you need a lot of edges to get those rounds. I struggle with the same thing.
I'm doing 3d for over 20 years now and only build in subdees because I usually built entertainment stuff or get CAD models.
When I see those wireframe from maybe MFH I'm totally yealous about the clean and reduced wireframes.
I used nurbs and patchmodeling years ago , like they use it in automotive design but that was a little complicated :)

I have quiet a few 3D models I really want to print in 1/12 but can't find the motivation to finish the models. So respect to all of you for actually finishing these projects !

sketchup plugin subd in action:
Image
1 - original mesh - red lines marks the creases
2 - subd 1 Iteration - the creases (red lines) marks the 'hard edges'
3 - subd 4 Iterations
4 - the 'real' mesh created with subd.

There is for sure better 3d design software available - but i do 3d design for fun and i like the way how sketchup makes 3d drawing possible without a huge amount of tutorials and training.

Hi Joe, right now I am think about a basic curbside kit without a donor Tamiya 934/935 kit.
But that's only my plans.
Will have to wait until I get the printed body in my hands and see what is possible and what can't be done.
