Not F1 but something interesting I'm working on
Hello,
I thought I'd share a little project that I'm working on that involves my first real use of the sherline lathe I got several years ago. I've never really gotten around to using it much probably because I was impatient to finish the models I was working on. I've adjusted my attitude a little to look at each part as a project of its own and the personal reward comes at the finish of each part.
I'm working on this 1/9 scale MV Agusta motorcycle kit. 1/9 is a great scale for me to be able to stretch the limits of my skills a little.
I began by working on the wheels, the kit ones are not good enough in my view. This was the test for me, if I couldn't make the wheels I would put it on the shelf until I could.
The turned hub and rim.
It worked! not perfect but pretty good for my first time.
I used aluminum for the turned pieces and long pins for the spokes and crimp rings I got from the local bead shop for the nipples on the spokes. I still have to finish the rear wheel, drilling all the holes is a real pain.
I then set my sights on the rear shocks, each made up of several small parts and the spring from the kit.
and the finished product, the shocks do work by the way.
Well that's it for now its been a fun project so far. I appreciate your thoughts and any tips you have on improvements that can be made.

Fantastic! What did you use to learn the skill to use the lathe? I think many of us would like to take this leap. I took machine shop in high school, but that was long ago.

If you took machine shop in school you had more experience than I did. I've had the machine for a few years and have just learned by trial and error.M.Chriss wrote:Fantastic! Here is a little update on the progress made. I've machined a bunch of little pieces here and there and am almost finished, the fully assembled photo is just a mock up, I still need to finish the front hub before final assembly.

This is excellent, my brother gave me this kit, and you have inspired me.
What did you do with the drive chain?
