BMW M3 E30 DTM 1/12 Conversion/Scratchbuild
Hi,here are the first pics from my latest scratchbuild/conversion project.
I want to create a BMW M3 touring car.The car won lots of champions ships all over the world.
Here are the first steps to make the mold of it.
Lots of changes to the master.
On the inside i made lots of sanding.
The base plate for the body.
Looks fine.
The wooden frame to hold the silicon.
Put together and hold with stripes in place.
The master was brushed with a thin coat of silicone to prevent it from airbubbles.
Outer frame sits into the place.Ready for casting.
The hole for fill in.
Mold is filled with 3,5kg silicone.
After one night its ready for molding. The inside looks fine.
The block for the inner core.
Ready for casting with quick setting-resin.
Casted and ready for some sanding.
The frame was rebuilded for molding the silicone.
Some cleaning is necessary, but the molds looks good.
And here are the result.
The first castings looks very good.Only some smaller bubbles at the front. But i try to prevent them with a different filling of the mold.
I do my best.
Next step are the wheels/rims.
Thanks
Christian

WOW ! Could not predict that one coming. Great selection of subject. Will be hard to resist.
And I really doubt MFH will ever release one to step on your toes Always wonderful to see
new model from you.
Btw, did Lancia Beta remained one of ? Would have been another hard to resist subject, if it was
release by you as a kit.

I love following the procedure of mold making and casting. Fascinating stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sergey,the Lancia was a one-thing model.
But you can order the printed parts from Torsten, the Designer of all parts.
For me it was just one car i wanted to build.
But if you want i can tell you Torstens mail address,or just look at the first page of the wip of the Lancia.
regards Christian

Very cool to see the casting procedure! Its a great subject.
Re: BMW M3 E30 DTM 1/12 Conversion/Scratchbuild
Great job on it Christian!!
I`m realy surprised that the solid molding core works and that you get the model off it finaly, thought all the time that it is needfull do do the inner core similar to the outer molding. Get`s it off easy when you unbox the casted body? I did a few 1:43 cars, but as it is not as much silicon as you need for a 1:12 mold, so i didn`t care and made both parts of the molding in silicon.
Realy great work! Love what i see!

Re: BMW M3 E30 DTM 1/12 Conversion/Scratchbuild
The inner core can be easily removed, when you build a bevel thats big enough.
Only a small bevel is needed, because the resin body can be widened a bit so it get off easy.
A complete silicon inner core is very expensive and a mix of silicon and wood did not work.I tested this with my first mold for the capri. The silicon fall off every time i wanted to use it.
Thanks for all your comments!

I have Christian's M1 Procar kit and it's equally brilliant of course. I am very impressed with this new work on the M3. Love the car.
