Re: Bugatti Type 50B engine.
Nice! You going to build the 100P to go with them?
Re: Bugatti Type 50B engine.
The 100P would be a great project! Got one in 1:43 in my stash, a real beauty!
Take a stand!

This will be fun to watch with your metal working skills and tools.

Re: Bugatti Type 50B engine.
Glad to see that there are others aware of the aircraft. Yes, I have the Fischer pattern kit. In the last photo you can see some of the resin engine parts that I am using as a source for dimensions. I also have the Japp Horst book. I had several internet exchanges with Scotty Wilson before he was killed in the last flight of the recreation 100P. He was kind enough to send me some of the original blue prints.Chinamalc wrote:Nice! You going to build the 100P to go with them?

Re: Bugatti Type 50B engine.
I am using the 1:24 scale Fischer pattern kit as a basis for this work. Paul's resin casting of the engine is really nice but I wanted to do the engines in metal. I think the engine turning looks better on metal and I couldn't figure out a way to do it on the resin.gp-models wrote:The 100P would be a great project! Got one in 1:43 in my stash, a real beauty!

Re: Bugatti Type 50B engine.
Thank you. Since you mentioned tools, I though you might like to see this. It is the jig I made to align and solder the german silver wire that I used to make the coolant pipe on the top of the engine. The resin part is below. It was just too crude for me to accept on a build like this.Indy1977TX wrote:This will be fun to watch with your metal working skills and tools.

Oh this is going to be fun. I've got a 1/72 scale kit.
I was very sad to hear about Scotty Wilson's crash last year.

Re: Bugatti Type 50B engine.
Well I have had a frustrating month getting an education on machining very small parts. I have learned about flex and shear and accurate measuring not to mention takings ones time. None of these are lessons that I hadn't learned before but sometimes you need a refresher course.
So what am I talking about. I have been working on twenty small clips that on the 1:1 hold the valve covers in place. These are not simple bolt like a modern head but bars with fillets and a central bolt hole. I made these out of brass strip 1/32" wide and milled a fillet and a bolt hole in each.
This is what the finished product looks like.
I have no idea how many I screwed up to get 20 of them but this is the scrap pile.
