ACCURATE REPLACEMENT WHEELS F/ 126C2 & MP4/2C 1/12th
ACCURATE REPLACEMENT WHEELS F/ 126C2 & MP4/2C 1/12th
Guys I finally did it!!!
A nice 13" front rim with the speedline design.
It fits well teh front tyre of other car, that also fits well with the 126C2. So since the 126C 2 tyre is 15", I'll have to make also resin replicas of the tyre.
I'm in progress with the rear 15" rim. But I have the plan made and it'll be even easier than the 13" front. Question here is the tyre, no available thing exists at 15".
The ones from Heller cars are laughable.
So I'll try to make an acceptable 15" rear tyre.
I'll probably do the thing in two formats. full rim+full tyre and maybe "tyre with inner (closer to car centerline) + outer face of rim".
More info soon, but I can tell you seeing the 13" RIM/TYRE combo was quite special.
Can't wait to see it in full trim, put on a 126C2...
regards

Excellent news James. I'll be very glad to have an alternative for the Protar/Revell kit wheels/tires when you're ready and thanks for the news!

James,
I think you know what I think of this
Thanks a million. Let us know when the thing is ready. Especially the rear one.

Thanks guys! Nevertheless don't expect anything spectacular. It won't be better than the Protar stuff, just of a different size
Anyway, since the Protar rims have the problem of melting in contact with the tyre, it'll be good to have them anyway as a stopgap while something better and at the correct size appears...
Those preferring turned aluminum stuff will surely prefer that whenever it pops from those ready to do it.
I managed the get the rear rim ready.
Now I'll try the rear tyre. As we commented long ago (as old as 4,5 years ago) the measure of the MP4/6 tyre is good, though it's not that great to sacrifice such a thing. We'll see...
best regards

One additional benefit I see from the Resin tire approach is that you can fine-tune the ride height slightly by sanding away resin from the diameter as needed to get the car to sit on all four tires correctly, plus you can fix errors in the material (such as removing the pre-molded BadYears, etc) if you want to. Also, they won't sag or compress / oxidize / crack over time as the normal kit tires can do.

Maybe I can use them on my Alfa 179C with melting tires.

Yes, but that's a general story about resin tyres. You're right.
Apart from the fact that the rubber feels and looks nice, rubber (or kinda rubber ) tyres only have problems: wear, degradation, not getting along that well with paints and other plastics, not that easy to sand (bar the fact that sanding the thread does acquire a nice finish).
In this car, suspension is so soft that hardly you'll have trouble with ride heigth.
BTW if tyres are smaller, probably suspension should be re-considered... nothing too difficult.

PS: Dave... I guess you mean the rims. It's the rims that use to melt. Did the rubber on your model melt too???
