Mail not arrived / got lost

Postby racingkars » Wed May 20, 2020 9:36 am

Hi Doc,

Somebody on the forum sent me a message and i sent him an answer.

Somehow he cannot read the answer / did not receive the answer / the answer got lost.

Is there any known bug?

He and i used the 'new' message option. On the top to the right.

oh I see Kars, I did not realise/forgot about the new message option in the top right corner of the screen. I have just been using the old version. The two versions are not in sync, but perhaps that is intentional, I guess Dr Eric will know.

Interesting though, that me only being aware of the old version, the initial PM I sent to Kars is only visible in the new version?

Hi Jeff,

So you used the 'old' version both times?

I received your 1st message (in Dutch) in the 'new' message box and i answered by the 'new' message box.

Your 2nd message (in English) was received in the 'old' message box and i answered by the 'old' message box.

hi Kars,

yes I'm fairly sure that when I sent you the first PM, I just went into the old version as usual (as I had no clue about the new version in the top right corner of the page at that stage), pressed 'Compose Message', then "Find a Member" and searched for your username, selected it, wrote the PM, and sent it. Or... I must have been very tired/confused and somehow got into the new version without realising it :)

Then when I checked it in the old version, could not see my first PM in "Sent", nor "Outbox". (again, not realising it would be visible in the new version). That's when I sent you a 2nd PM in the old version, I could see it move into "Outbox", and then "Sent", once you read it.

Jeff,

Then my initial Dutch response should be visible for you in the 'new' version.

Er.... are you sre you actually sent it? it has happened to me before that I think I hit the "send" button and just by mistake hit the "preview", or just you think you sent, and you had one of those "improper command (or whatever) at line #3", or "you cannot send a message so soon after.." and you close the tab without noticing and message gets lost...
I know it's a dumb option, but as Murray Walker says "...could happen and usually does"

Yep, i've sent it.
And the 'new' box incoming and sent messages are still visible for me.
However both are gone in Jeff's boxes i have understood from him.

thanks Kars & James,

yes I can see the first PM that I sent, and also Kars first reply, in the new version. (they don't appear in the old version) What I can't explain is how I managed to send that first PM in the new version, as I was not aware that there was a new version.

Not being aware of the new version, I only looked in the old version Inbox, Outbox and Sent Messages for my first PM and Kars reply. As I couldn't see them there (we now know they were sitting in the new version), I sent a 2nd PM in the old version, and we carried on successful correspondence from there :)

Not sure what happened, I am also in preparations to move house, so it's possible I had a dazed & confused moment  8) All good, thanks guys

There are two messaging systems - one within the Forums and one within the full site. They are separate and do not sync.
