Senna Kart 1981 - Questions
I am currently working on the Senna Kart 1981 from Fujimi and need your opinion on this helmet. I would like to replace the helmet in the kit with another one. I'm unfortunately very unsure of the size. The scale is the right one with 1/20 but it looks very small / narrow to that from the kit.

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - replacement helmet
It’s a late seventies helmet, used on a lesser category.
I have javelots, same head fits but outer size is smaller.
Am F1 unit has bigger inner styrofoam padding
A kartings helmet might look smaller
So it seems to be fine

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - replacement helmet
Hello,
you can have a look to the one realised by Sennake
https://www.f1m.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... 7&start=30
I add some more image from the web, to my opinion the figure is a bit oversize to the top, it looks like more Schwarzenegger than Senna.
is difficult to see because the angles, scales are not the same from model kit to reality, but I think the top large of the shoulders of the figure needs to be reduce.
Cheers
Franck

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - replacement helmet
Thank you both for the feedback.
And again 2 rather different opinions
Changing the figure itself is of course a little difficult, especially in the current state.
I'm going to try an old Tamiya helmet again today (Guy, as far as I know, also used such a helmet).
Unfortunately I don't actually have any of these helmets that I no longer need

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - replacement helmet
To be honest, I answered in short from the mobile, so my opinion is not that different
I forgot to add that in fact, I agree, figure is too wide. Senna was certainly no bodybuilder at any stage, even less when karting.
On the pics, yes, helmet looks big in comparison. It's all a matter of references. Size compared to kart is hard to make an idea of, but surely helmet/body is easier to compare. So the better way to make it all look scaled is to have a bigger helmet.
I do have of those, PM me ypur address and I can send.
Yes, wide window, Tamiya old style

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - replacement helmet
Ah I understand
Yes, the body is a bit muscular, like that of a bodybuilder.
Especially when you normally use Franck's characters, he is very, very strong.
I think the simplest is really to take a slightly larger helmet to keep the overall impression.
As I said, I will test it to get another impression of it.
Thanks also for the offer - that sounds really great! : D

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - Questions
I'm not just starting a new topic and have simply adjusted the title.
I have another question and hope you can just maybe help me further.
I have the fuel canister, which I made completely new. Currently an FFF 3d print, it will be an SLA 3d print part, because the surface looks scary right now.
But that's not the question.
I need help with the right color of the canister. The lower part turns red (Vallejo Game Color Ink, 206 Wash Red Shade) because it is a 2-stroke engine and fuel is being mixed.
But the upper part should not be really white, since a certain aging should already be recognizable, or the canister is not really white in the original - rather a cream tone.

It doesn't have to be really yellowish - I don't want to age that much.
But that's where the problem lies - I can't find an approach and if I've mixed so far it has always turned white or yellow but somehow not as I imagine.
This is the current state (still the old 3d print), but I'm not really satisfied.
Do you have an idea?

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - Questions
I would say mix tamiya semi gloss clear with transparent yellow to a disired shade and spray over the canister to make it more yellowish/ jerrycan plastic.
Cool project

Definitely sounds plausible. I will try it as soon as I have finished the new printed part.Hein wrote:I would say mix tamiya semi gloss clear with transparent yellow to a disired shade and spray over the canister to make it more yellowish/ jerrycan plastic.

I had already considered doing a WIP, but a lot of things have already been presented here in the forum and I have also progressed very far and have not always taken pictures of the individual steps.

Re: Senna Kart 1981 - Questions
POSTING 1st part:
Today was really a nice day and I don't mean because of the weather
I got mail today: D
Thank you so much first to James !!
Of course I started right away and adjusted the helmet so that it fits the figure.
There is not much difference between the helmet shown and James', but it changes a lot, I mean.
But look for yourself and give your opinion on it.
I also now have an SLA printed part of the Spirt canister.
This really works much better and I think I'll try to prepare and paint the parts tomorrow.
Then I can also try the tips on the canister;)
