Re: 1/12 Lotus 49 - What solutions have people used for the over-sized DFV?

BTW, anyone that has built or has any interest in 1/12 F1 models (long before MFH) should take a look at Mark Oakley's models at his website ( http://www.mrof1engineering.co.uk/?page_id=22 ). Very impressive and many of his builds are ones I would have loved to do myself, especially the McLaren M19 ...

Re: 1/12 Lotus 49 - What solutions have people used for the over-sized DFV?

PS: other problem is, surely, the gearbox. There's a nice resin replacement from "Idonnowwho", me I'll probably try a scratch effort. Brian Fawcett in England is the resincaster that, starting in 2010, had offered the accurate ZF and Hewland gearboxes for use with a more correct size DFV ...

Re: My ancient history of 1/12 scale modelling

Bjorn, Thank you your post. I found it VERY interesting as my experience with Tamiya's 12th scale kits was very similar to yours, and being nearly the same age as you. I began building their kits in 1972, ultimately building about a dozen of them up through the early 1980's. I also am amazed I was a...

It looks fabulous, Christian! I will be placing my order for the 1/24th kit this week. Thank you!

Re: Crash Helmet Collection

Alex, is this a new book or just one I missed? I only have one "Pilot" series book on Senna.. Makes me wonder about my supplier who was supposed to be getting me all the Joe Honda books as they were released. Derek, Check with Mac's Modeling, listed on the "Ref. Material"...

Re: Scale Auto Magazine is Dead

My main exception to liking Muscle cars are muscle cars that were road racers. I agree, especially the Trans-Am racers! :D I have the makings to someday build four of my favorites (1970 Mustang, Cuda, Challenger, and 1971 Donohue Javelin) If you don't already the issues with the articles, you might...

Re: Scale Auto Magazine is Dead

My all time favorite feature was a rebuild of the Revell 1/12 Camero into the famous Racing Sunoco Camero as driven by Mark Donahue in Trans Am. I so wanted to build that car but the conversion work was always past my abilities. I tried in vain to convert the 1/24 CAmero, I think i even found the d...

Re: Any Lotus 49 experts here?

Hi Bjorn, I'm certainly not an expert on the 49, but like most cars of that period, the Lotus 49's changed constantly right from the start, so each individual car had differences from each other. Good luck trying to find details on which chassis had what changes at a specific race! But check ...

Re: Heller Porsche 907 LH

Tim, great build of a somewhat challenging  kit! Thanks for sharing it. That decal sheet was made by Fred Cady, who was a pioneer of aftermarket racing and street car model decals from the 1980's through early 2000's. Fred's 2001 catalog (the most recent one I still have) says he had released ...

Re: MRRN stash

Yes, MRRN/MRM magazine only had 41 issues. I still consider it my favorite modeling magazine ever. Before getting rid of the magazines, you may want to check whether the computer CD-ROM with PDF versions of all MRRN/MRM issues is still available from modeler Curt Raitz (he says he got permission fro...
