Lego offering 5 new single seater kits

I mentioned in another thread that Lego seems to be more proactive about what the market wants than the legacy model makers. Here they are again with 5 new F1 based sets coming in March. A big and small sized Mercedes F1 W14. A McLaren MP4/4 and a small 2023 McLaren race car. This year they already ...

It was a 2017 season car and the kit was released in 2018.

Re: Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

Yep Stu! we gotta be positive. Dammit the TWO MP4/4 and the L99T are all GREAT news, as the MP4/2C re-release is. Our new and welcome fellow blue can see at a "complicated" field as he´s assimilating all the history of this in a few days. But if we are to rate if we are, right now, in a g...

Re: Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

Out of interest, I checked the age of the CEO of Tamiya. Mr. Shunsaku Tamiya is 89 years old. That probably explains some of it.

I also learned that Tamiya sponsored an F1 car in 1991

Re: Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

I think whether new injection molded model kits will be produced by the big name model companies is still down to money. Fujimi released a new lot of 1/20 F1 cars of the early 2000 and than stopped. If the sales are very good and Fujimi is having a good return, there is no reason to stop producing ...

Re: Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

Age is an interesting question. I am 38 and I remember most of my friends did at least one model. And then a few got good at it and made a few more. This was the era of Super Nintendo and N64. We had video games but it wasn't as interactive as it is now. You could only play with your friends when th...

Re: Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

F1 was a niche sport. It has come to a whole other level since 2020 onward. I recon one of the mainstream kit companies will eventually get a modern F1 kit or 2 out there. Even Lego has got in on the F1 boom and offered a licenced McLaren F1 Technic set. And it is selling really well. They were har...

Re: Who,s going to make the f1 cars for the 2014 season

Re: Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

Oh, there are likely dozens of issues the folks here could list as to the gaps in the market, lack of kits, etc. The simplest is that scale modeling is a niche hobby and F1 is a niche sport. Throw in money, and, well.... F1 was a niche sport. It has come to a whole other level since 2020 onward. I ...
