So the basecoat it's a choice?
So you paint a Ferrari on black sprue and it's better than a properly film sprayed on a good basecoat (like light grey or much better light pink) ?

You can use any brake fluid. Get the cheapest one you can find, as you will need lots. :) The best way I have found is to put the model into a plastic or metal container and flood it with brake fluid for at least half a day, then take the paint of with a toothbrush.
