Neko's 1/20 RF81 FF1600 is also a full detail tube framed Formula Ford car and is also beautifully engineered.whatisdeletrazdoing wrote:Beautiful work! And excellent photography as always. I *think* this is the only full-detail non-monocoque Formula car in 1/20 scale and the engineering on that kit is top notch stuff!

Saeshin Strong 207S Micro Motor and hand piece. Great bit of kit; lighter, more controllable than a Dremel and vibration free across its massive rev range.

Re: Packing built kits for intercontinental journey by plane
I have moved models a number of times (Oz to NZ return, Oz to England & return, Oz to the US & return) and use a similar 'base-and-case'/'base-and-box' system. The trick is to ensure that the model cannot move both relative to the base/case...or its parts relative to each other. I try and av...

AN fittings
When did AN fittings first appear on F1 cars? M23 McLaren seems to have had them but it was a very long lived beast and perhaps not a good indicator.

Re: Rivets
Depends on several variables: loading, materials being joined, spacing, etc and with the era in which they were used. One example I measured was the Gurney Weslake F1 car from the 60s which had 6mm (0.3mm @ 1/20) spaced at roughly 50mm (2.5mm @ 1/20) centres but varying with location, load, etc. Som...

Re: Photo etch on compound curve
If it is nickel or silver alloyed with copper then there is a risk of 'fire scale', i.e. where the copper comes to the surface and leaves a slightly darker patch. Try to anneal just once or twice using minimal heat. Some alloys are fine, others not so much: test first on some scrap and see what work...

Re: Photo etch on compound curve
Hi Malcolm, As it happens I am cladding a monocoque with 0.2mm aluminium and 0.1mm litho plate at the moment. 3M Super 77 'Classic Spray Adhesive' is working for me. Anneal the part (stainless will take some heat but be very careful if it is aluminium) and shape it with your fingers as much as you c...

Re: Best Photo Etch Folders
I use a Master Tools bender, about 160mm long on one edge and various "fingers" along the other. Well made and reasonably priced, I use it for any long items. For smaller parts I use a pair of 'parallel' action pliers which are my 'go to' pliers for just about everything. The parallel pivo...

Any of Senna's early cars: Van Diemen RF80, RF81, RF82 and Ralt RT3-82, RT3-83 and (as mentioned earlier) Toleman TG183B...in 1/12 please.
Last one should be easy as much of it carried over into the TG184.
