Re: U/D Carbon Decals?
Funny about that - I was thinking of your Mclaren build just a couple of nights ago: I'm currently doing the Meng MP4/4 but ultimately, it's somewhat unfulfilling compared to the awesome detail on your build. Anyway, I'm thinking of moving on to the MP4/6 shortly, which is what started me off thinki...

Re: Who will win the 2024 Miami Grand Prix?
Ever since the 'who will win ....' polls have been going, I've been voting for the person I wanted to win, rather than who I thought would win,
Finally, I've called it right - go Nando - may this be the first win of many.

Tamiya LP-9 (clear)
I'm not sure if this is a question or a warning. My default choice of paints at present is the Tamiya LP range (like the spray cans but in a small Tamiya jar). I find the paints reliable and easy to spray. However, a few days ago I sprayed the part shown (inner cockpit of Meng MP4/4) with gloss blac...

Re: Look for Meng McLaren MP4/4 in the wild
Thank you for those who have come back with information about the end plate thickness - I measured the Meng parts and they are around 1mm - so waaay too thick. The Hobby Design pe set comes with two parts for each end plate - so that may be about ok, but I'm not sure whether to just go with the kit ...

Re: Look for Meng McLaren MP4/4 in the wild
I watched this video last night about the MP4/4 - which has a load of helpful close up shots and interesting narrative by three of the original design team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7uZu_Wsdis&t=116s There are some great close up shots and a lot of insight into the design process. A ques...

Re: Mclaren M19, Annie Nightingale, Peter Gethin, 1971 GB GP
Thank you so much for posting that. I sigh along with you. One of my favourite YT videos is of Annie Nightingale hosting the Damned playing Smash it Up on the Old Grey Whistle Test back in 1979. I appreciate that non-UK viewers (or indeed anyone less that around 50) may never have heard of the Old G...

Re: Brabham BT 34 1971 - kit Iritani 1/20
Please don't think I am in any way insulting your great workmanship. But I can remember looking at pictures of the car back in 1971 and thinking how cool it was (mind you, I'm not sure if we used the word 'cool' back then). Anyway, I was into slot-car racing at the time and I raced one with the BT34...

Re: Soldering PE to white metal
I think you need to be very careful. In my (admittedly limited) experience of soldering white metal (about 50% of a MFH kit so far), you only need to have the soldering iron a bit too hot or hold it on the part a few moments too long and you end up with the whole part reduced to a shiny, unrecognisa...

Re: Thunder Valley still in business?
I thought there was some prohibition here about criticising Thunder Valley, but since it's not being enforced at the moment, I'll give my experience.... And I admit I had read and yet ignored all the warnings I had read about him but 3 - 4 years ago, I desperately wanted his FW-14b set. And so I con...

Thick photoetch
Odd question, but I've just opened the Scale Motorsport photoetch parts for the Tamiya Williams FW-34. One of the 'frets' is the 'normal' thickness for PE (around 0.2mm) but the second is much thicker (around 0.6mm). I just wondered if anyone has any experience of dealing with PE of this thickness -...
