Re: Tamiya F189

I spent alooong time on the paint job, and I waxed the crap out of it so I'm glad you guys like it! :)

Btw, yesterday I ordered myself a Tamiya McLaren-Honda MP4/4 and some paints! :D  I'm a little worried about painting that sucker, but it should be a good challenge. :)

Re: Tamiya F189

Thanks for the kind replies guys! I thought about leaving the car without decals, or maybe just the Ferrari crests but in the end I wanted the full race-day look. I will definitely post pics of the 4/4 when I get to that (I still haven't bought the model yet though :)).

Tamiya F189

In my time off I've been building a few models, most recently Tamiya's 1/20th Ferrari F189 Grand Prix car. It's not my first effort, but it's been several years since I've built one so I made a few mistakes on this one, so please be kind, but tell me what you think of it. :) I painted it with rattle...

Re: A few questions about clear coats.

Ok guys, so I finished it: http://i26.tinypic.com/3088e45.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/mrjfk.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/34q90sx.jpg I ended up using primer and TS8 in several coats and then a generous amount of polishing with automotive polish. It's not perfect but I think it looks decent. I bought a ...

Re: A few questions about clear coats.

There's lots of difference of opinion on this topic, thanks for all the input guys. Tonight I finished applying the basecoat and I'm going to leave it to cure for 4-5 days. Hopefully I've done a good job on the painting, but I'm still pretty inexperienced so we'll see how it turns out. I'll post som...

Re: A few questions about clear coats.

I don't usually use a clear coat on cars either unless its necessary (decals after application look dull OR matt base paint used or metallic base paint), its not necessary really if you have primed and then painted the body, let it set and proceed to polishing & waxing, you will end up (hopeful...

Re: A few questions about clear coats.

Thanks for the quick answers guys! 8) I personally do not clearcoat. It's the perfect opportunity to screw up an otherwise good build. There is no one safest clearcoat for decals. It depends entirely on the decals. Conventional wisdom is that enamel is safe, but that is not the case with my decals -...

A few questions about clear coats.

Hello everyone. This is my first post here, although I've been a lurker for a bit. I've just got back into to modeling after a long hiatus. I got a 1/35 tank as a present (I'd never built any tanks before) and I was going to just build it, and then I built another and another ; and I had quite...
