Great start and great idea to solder the outside holes. Will follow with interest and also would like to know your plans for that special F2007 color…

Testors Easy Lift Off (ELO) is the best. Soak it over night, and the paint will peel off with no damage to the resin.

James, hello! I believe I solved my problem. Found the needle in a giant stack of needles.

Still have no use for the 333. I’ll email you next week. I’ll never build it.

I wouldn't soak it in Isopropyl alcohol either as I had some resin parts turn rubbery when doing so.

On the one occasion i stripped paint off a resin body I just used a rag with some lacquer thinners on it and wiped it clean with no issues.

Questions • Removing paint from a resin kit

F1M Forums - Tue, 03/14/2023 - 15:05
Hi all, a short question.

I'm building for the first time a resin kit. unfortunately I had a paintproblem, the primer began to crack on several places of the body. I used zero paints grey primer, normally no problem at all. I think I will lay down some very thin layers next time.

But for now I want to remove the paint so I can do the paintjob again. My question, can I put the kit in brake fluid? Will it do no harm to the resin parts? Anybody any experience?

Thanks for the help!

Loek

Nice start, I'll be following as well.
2 Quick questions..how do you go about cleaning / treating the resin for paint, and the white metal parts, do you sand those smooth or ....?
Very intricate looking car.
Cheers

Oh that´s sad
Besides he was a music man too... An ABBA song for his memory and this little effort...

May he race in peace.Yeah, Slim scored points with Tyrrell and paid direct from his revenues with ABBA. He was a decent driver.

Hi,
Will also follow with interest. My current project is the 1/12 F2008 also from MFH. Same parts breakdown, fits well with a few file swipes. One question tough : what paint will you use? I used Gravity Colors rosso scuderia on the F2008.
Cheers

Questions • Re: WTB: 1/8 scale throttle return springs

F1M Forums - Tue, 03/14/2023 - 07:25
I am making do with these, at least for now; found some0.2mm strands in a plastic coated wire and cut some plates from scrap sheet aluminum, with the popularity of the scale increasing there is a large lack of detail parts and detail parts suppliers. I'd like to see some photetched rotors, machined funnels and injectors in the correct scale [the kits injectors are too large] and machined plumbing fittings that don't cost a fortune for this kit. For the price I think Pocher has done a very good job at representing the 72D. What ever happened to guys like Ratner at /Thunder Valley, RB Motion, etc- the guys that used make parts for new models are they came out.

Could it be that those are some simple form of fasteners like the Dzus we saw on other cars, like the hood scoop on the GT40s of the time?

Other than that, I'm grabbing a cold one and enjoying the beginning of yet another masterpiece in the making. And it somehow feels wrong to write "yet another", but I'm confident it will be a masterpiece, the last in a long line of masterpieces, so...
Interesting thing on the colour, Pascal. How do you decide which base layers to use for a paintjob? I think I remember seeing a red on yellow on grey paint progression with another Ferrari model from you. I seem to remember I inundated you with questions about tools, colours, etc. back then (Gravity colours, I believe - at least back then).
This will go into the reference folder as well - However, I "only" have the Tamiya 312B

I don’t want to butt into Pascal’s description of yet another wonderful model but could some one please explain the reason for / use of the knotted string on the rear deck of the 312B?

Look at the following links, on the rear bodywork, above the yellow stripe, there is a horizontal row of rivets, just behind the cockpit cowling two rivets appear to have been omitted and replaced by the ends of a knotted length of string, similarly towards the back end of the same row of rivets (nearest the camera) there is another length of knotted string where you would expect to see two rivets, this appears on both sides of the rear deck. The string would have to be supporting something light, I don’t think that there is anything electrical that far back in the 321B so it wouldn’t be a wiring loom, I am left wondering if they could be supporting either brake pipes or possibly an oil temperature / pressure gauge line. Any ideas anyone?

These two links show the 312B at, I believe Spa:
https://primotipo.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/forg.jpg
https://3oneseven.com/media/2022/07/up/ ... a-1970.jpg

And this link shows the knotted string in place when Amon was testing the car in 1969:
https://images-cdn.bridgemanimages.com/ ... 613330.jpg

There are other pictures on the internet showing the string still in place when the 312B made a couple of appearance late in the season when the 312B2 was not performing as hoped, from this I would hazard a guess that the string was used on all the 312B cars.

Guitar strings are indeed a really nice thing to use. Either electric ones with hard steel “bone “ or Spanish one with soft nylon inside that you can easily remove without breaking the spring like shape and leaving it hollow

Hi Pascal,
You always do such amazing work, and it is always a pleasure to follow your builds.
I am curious to know what brand paint you use for the body. You said that you allowed an hour between the red body coat and the white roundels.
It seems like such a short time to be masking and spraying a second colour.
I have no doubt that it is successful, but something I would never have the confidence to do.
Looking forward to your next updates.
Tim

Work in Progress • MFH Ferrari F1 2007 1/12

F1M Forums - Mon, 03/13/2023 - 17:31
My next project is the 2007 in the China GP. It's a curbside or proportion kit as most of the modern F1 kits from MFH.
7C9B5589-A33D-4A9D-BACE-54089C02AEF4.jpegResin cast parts are smooth and need only few preparation. 0EC16B93-8C6D-4891-9A81-E892A6988AB7.jpegOnly problem are the holes in the white metal end plates. You have to paint the single parts of the complex front wing and glue them at the end, but this stage is too late for puttying.
So I soldered the outer hole but saved the inner hole for a strong fit of the wing.0BB88269-515E-4EFC-B6CF-B021B2FBADE4.jpeg6E562C1B-D9FC-477E-9FAC-43F863486396.jpeg
