Questions • Re: Removing paint from a resin kit

I've used 90% isopropyl alcohol to remove paints from resin parts. Worked for Zero paint and Tamiya lacquers.
Might not work for all type of paints.

2023 Race Predictions • Re: Who will win the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix?

F1M Forums - Fri, 03/17/2023 - 06:56
I wouldn't say the first race was boring.
There were a lot of interesting duels.
Even if maybe not directly for the lead, but I think it will be interesting again this weekend.

A changed route and changed DRS measuring points will require an adapted driving style.
I think and hope we will see exciting duels for places again, even if I bet on a winner with the red bull again.

... Slim scored points with Tyrrell ...Actually he scored his only point with ATS at the British GP in 1981. The 1982 season with Tyrrell unfortunately ended after only three races because of sponsorship problems.

I'm all in on two of them, One of each, The 88 and the 88B. Watched the 88 at Long Beach. The car was a brilliant piece engineering kit and should have never been banned!!

Hangover

We're already back from our trip to Belgium, from an unforgettable weekend surrounded by many modeling friends and several thousand models. Yes, you have read it right, several THOUSANDS of car, motorcycle and truck models, in all their scales.

It is impossible to tell in just a few lines everything we have seen, enjoyed, talked about, laughed, drunk... so we are going to summarize it all in one word: Awesome!!!

While the trip "hangover" wears off and lets us resume several tons of pending issues, we will do our best to sit at the workbench and think about what builds we will be taking to Jabbeke next year. Because of course, we will be there.

Any ideas? Among the novelties that we have around here there are very interesting releases, such as the Decalcas paint masks for the Bugatti Type 35B by Italeri, a good pile of references in 1/43 scale by Arena, or several Studio27 liveries for the BMW Z4 GT3 and the MP4-12C GT3.

Tonight, after dinner, a good Belgian beer sponsored by SpotModel to ease the hangover.

I applaud Mr Hiro for his passion for the sport, and his love of modeling, but sometimes I personally question his subjects if he is really interested in making a profit from them. He’s widely quoted as saying that product decisions are made based on ‘what I like’. A bit like Peter Jackson and Wingnut Wings…. There is no market research - he creates kits of subjects he wants kits of.

The Lotus 88 is a no-brainer for MFH. Most all of the cost to produce a low-volume kit is design/development. They've already done all the design in 1/20 for both the Essex 88 and the JPS 88b. They just need to click a couple of menu's to scale it up, making a few changes where needed. In the past they changed very little on their scale-ups. It's also a very cool subject and one of the best kits MFH ever designed (IMHO based on salivating over my unstarted 1/20 88b).

Hi,

I think I take the safe way, so no brake fluid but the products from Revell or Testors if I can get it in my hobbyshop.

I still think grey primer of Zero paints is oké on resin but just light coats (no wet coat).

Thanks all for the advices!

Ah well. My wallet safe for another month or two!

A "niche" choice I would say - but good luck to MFH with it. Great colour scheme of course.

At least they have the DFV and Hewland parts from numerous other releases.

(Does anyone actually build MFH DFVs with the working internals? Has anyone actually got the crank to turn more than twice before breaking?)

I applaud Mr Hiro for his passion for the sport, and his love of modeling, but sometimes I personally question his subjects if he is really interested in making a profit from them. The Lotus 88 never raced, it was a clever idea to skirt (no pun intended) the 1981 ban on sliding skirts, as was the universally adopted, ridiculous rising suspension that Gordon Murray came up with. There was nothing more absurd than watching the cars on track, and then when they entered the pit lane seeing the car magically rise to legal ride hight. It was embarrassing to see that brilliant aerodynamicists & engineers were reducing themselves to pulling stunts like these.
I remember many iconic F1 seasons, I’ve never considered 1981 as one of them, between the skirt regulations and the attempts to circumvent them, and the FOCA vs FISA war, it was a ****-show. GV’s two iconic wins at Monaco & Jarama salvaged what was a mostly forgettable season that ended with Lole crumbling at the biggest moment of his career, and Piquet taking the title, having to be to be physically held help in the Caesar’s Palace parking lot after finishing fifth. Hardly memories of the gods stuff!
All you say here makes it an iconic car ...it was different, controversional and forbidden, what a story !!

I would try brakefluid. Used it multiple time on plastic and resin. No problems. On resin abolutley nothing happened but when I let a plasticbody in it over night the plastic got a little rough. But usually no need to let it soak so long. I reas somewhere that DOT4 is the best , so this is what I use. Give the paint a little sanding with rough paper to help the fluit suck into the paint...
