Hi Alex,
what a masterbuild ! It looks perfect. I just realize that the rims were black on Hill's car...
Did you use the kit decals for the front white circle and band on the nose ?

Hello Jacques,
Thanks.Yes I used the kit decals in fact they are very good.
The only thing is that the white from the decals is not the same as the suggested
tamiya Ts26..I am planning to make the Italian GP car also and I will paint the white stripe on that one..

Alex!
I have a question regarding wheel colour. I've noticed on the few pictures there are of the 72C Rob Walker Lotus that while the wheels are black (on the USA GP car, at least), the wheel rim seems to be aluminum&/chrome/silver...?
This is especially visible on this picture:
What is your (and everyone elses, of course) opinion on this?
Andy

Well, most black wheels are not black but more dark metalic grey ( depending on the angle in wich the photo was taken ).On the Rob Walker car the wheels are black but the have some wear from handeling..its a bit like a black gun or rifle that shows the onderneath metal from handeling..I made mine semi matt black and I "drybrushed" them with Tamiya weathering master "C"..I used a combination of the silver and the gun metal..Just one thing:if you use this stuff be sure to give them a light coat of semi gloss clear to "seal" the weathering powder..
PS : I made some more progress and added the mirrors, cockpit stuff and the upper bodypart ( clear windscreen )

Looking great Alex!!
Keep on Building!!!
Keep on Building!!!
Andy I think you will find most wheel rims from this time period will show up silver around the outer wheel lip. This was due primarily to the use of the old style tire machines they used to mount and dis-mount the tires. You have to remember that during this time they did not have the fancy tire machines like today that do not touch the wheels. Also they did not do much to protect the wheels when they were stacked waiting of tires. It did not take much to ware threw the black coating on the wheel to reveal the natural color of the alloy.AndyPerry wrote:Alex!

Great looking model so far, and this thread is a good source of info too. I have one in the stash, and am very tempted to start it sooner rather than later.
