WIP: Fujimi MP4/27 1/20 early season Hamilton
Re: WIP: Fujimi MP4/27 1/20 early season Hamilton
Nice clean and precise workmanship.........I just recently returned to building F1. I am amazed @ the subject matter and the items available for bringing the best out of a kit.
A chrome finish for the body by paint........years agao this was in the realm of AC and not cars except for bumpers!
I am impressed by the finish on that Buck Rogers looking race car.

I feel the need, the need for speed.........

Am really pleased your building this one, have
this kit also and am following your post with interest.
I was going to use alcad polished Ali,and then coat with
the new alcad aqua gloss,I wonder if anybody has used this combination?
It is fairly new!
The alcad original gloss looks a no go because it's cellulose it would pretty much destroy the decals!
At the moment I'm building the Bmodelworks E20 Lotus 1:20 scale.
It's not bad some fit issues with the wheel
Hubs etc,nut should look good.
Keep up the great work!

I am in fact using this exact combination of paints for my MP4/25 model. It worked on wing elements,acer709 wrote:...

just need to nail the main body. I have used Aclad HPA and Gunze H30 for my MP4/22, which you could
see on the background. CBartholomew4677 is used Alclad Chrome and Aqua Gloss clear on his McLaren
successfully.

Original Alclad Gloss clear refused to dry on me. Even after 6 months it was still tacky. I've removed it and restarted againacer709 wrote:The alcad original gloss looks a no go because it's cellulose it would pretty much destroy the decals!
for my MP4/25 model.
If you post a WIP on that one, I would be very keep to follow. Cool car. If not for the success of E21 this year, I would haveacer709 wrote:At the moment I'm building the Bmodelworks E20 Lotus 1:20 scale.

Re: WIP: Fujimi MP4/27 1/20 early season Hamilton
I'm a very slow builder, but with warm, sunny weather back to GTA, my motivation and energy levels are quite high at present. I like decal jobs, so I decided
to continue with one for MP4/27. Spent weekend applying decals to body and some wing elements. I opted to use all decals for day glow red instead of painting.
That let me avoid painful masking and paint matching headaches. I've warmed up with decals on wing elements, before I started big ones on the nose and side
pods. As expected big side pod decals were problematic, because Fujimi made simple flat decals for such a curved surfaces. With lots of Mirco-Sol and some heat
from hair drier, I managed to put them on with not too many and not so big wrinkles. Most wrinkles are on the underside of side pods, so hopefully will not be
very visible. Clear coat will help a hide then a bit more as well. I did screwed up nose stripes though. They are a bit of center. For the rest there weren't any troubles.
Apparently McLaren has even less decals then Ferrari. I basically have just few more to apply on rear wing end plates and front wing elements.
Same as for F10, I've decided to use CF decals on wing elements, to avoid extra masking and painting of SG black.

Great work!!
I'm still a bit afraid of these chrome paint. I have started the B.Model Works MP4/26,but the paint job is not to my taste, and i can't find a way to get replacement decals.I have the MP4/27 in my stach, instead of using Alclad chrome i think i will try C1 Model powder. No need to clear coat before aplying decals,it can be handled without any problem.

Fantastic! With the decals on it's really coming to life. Looks great. I'm sure there will be the odd flaw, there is on most builds, but they certainly don't show up in the pictures.

You certainly like the jump from one build to the next....the decals look excellent and the whole car is spot on.
