In the words of some hipsters around here:
That's just cray-cray.
(Look it up if you don't know...)
No freaking wonder you haven't been on in a while! You've been busy! Awesome!

Re: 1/5 McLaren MP4/8 Scratchbuilt
Most impressive build! The size of that thing... Some WIP shots would be great to see as most people never will build something in that scale
Re: 1/5 McLaren MP4/8 Scratchbuilt
I'm unimpressed: I seriously doubt that you included the piston rings
Oh, honestly it's smashing!! and it well looks you simply didn't bet on the "wow, it's huge" factor and went down to the details required for a "closer-to-real-rather-than-model" size.
I did this one full scracth at 1/20 (yes, I was that lucky chosing) and know it is a hell of a job, 4 times bigger that apparently flat and 1 degree curved shapes betray their trickiness.
And the finish oh my god!!!
Now that is scratch building, and modeling, and finishing, and detailing, and....

If, for *some* reason, you ever need to fail a competency hearing, just point to that model. All involved will surely agree that you're completely insane*!!!!!!!
(*For those who might not get it, I mean "insane" in the very best possible meaning of the word!)

Just amazing! And one of my favorite F1 cars - especially without the barge boards.
Yes, a WIP please.
Cheers,
Greg

It's an amazing work, Husker, fantastic job!
Years ago a guy contacted me to do parts for a 1/12 MP4/8. I did the 3D modelling and PE design for many parts, including bodywork, engine, gearbox (it was meant to be a full model), but for some reason the guy gave up the project and the archives were never printed. So I was curious to see a MP4/8 in bigger scale than 1/20. Your model is absolutely fantastic, and by far the best big 4/8 model I've seen.
I said "the best" because last month I saw in an exhibition here in Sao Paulo an 1/1 replica of the 4/8. From a distance, at a first glance, it can even fools a modeler, but as you look with attention the flaws begin to "scream". Seems to be a proper working replica, there's a gearbox lever in the cockpit... ouch! At least who did the replica used real period F1 tyres, and the general look is good enough to Globo TV cable channel use it as part of the scenery, in one of the various Senna's specials last thursday.

Re: 1/5 McLaren MP4/8 Scratchbuilt
Cant give up to look at this beauty.
Is there a special reason you choose this car?
I mean its not the special super win every race car?
And of course a work in progress would be awesome.
How do you scale up the parts? What was your beginning step?A white paper or a existing model you have scaled up?
Question and no end.So a wip would be awesome.
regards
Christian

My guess is that It is Sennas last win and last race in a McLaren - Adelaide 1993.capri-schorsch wrote:Cant give up to look at this beauty.

Also the last race he finished - a fitting tribute if there ever was one.
