Ridiculous that Pocher have modeled a car released already by two other makers and are claiming it as a completely new model. What is the point? Hornby are now on their second try at revitalizing the company and this is the best that they could do? Four years ago they promised new and varied models and all they managed was the Lotus.
Disclaimer: just one man's opinion, worth exactly what you are paying for it, LOL. Disagree? Make a case as to why we need THREE 1/8 scale model kits of the same car.

Edit: 300 parts? Lame. The IXO / Agora model has twice that.

:?

New model doesn't mean it has never been released by anyone, anywhere, in the history of humanity. It means it's a new tooling, not based on another existing kit. Or rather, the other existing kit, since the alternative is the same kit released under two labels.

And it's half the price of the subscription kit.

As for why they're doing it... it's one of the most iconic cars from the most iconic race in the most iconic livery. The same reason everyone keeps doing the MP4/4.

If I was inclined to do a large scale 917, I'd go with the MFH kit. It has much more detail even at 1/12th scale. The Pocher kit is way too toylike for my taste.

Don`t expect too much details only by it`s scale! Otherwise you would have a price like Amalgan or similar.
Dose not look like a 43 model, too sharp pattern on the tires, surrounding of head light covers and more.
Pocher was never a company with highly detailed or accurate models, remember their Porsche 993 engine, never seen something like this, could also be done by an elementary school class.

The IXO Porsche 917 Full Kit official price is 999€ and has more a double amount of parts as the Pocher Kit.
In the next coming months IXO will also release the 1970 LeMans Winner Porsche 917 #23 as full kit for the same price like the Gulf Porsche.
Only Agora (overpriced) Models sell the IXO-Porsche 917 for the double price!

The IXO/Agora and Pocher kits are likely similar in detailing; not bad, not great. No one will confuse them with the smaller MFH cars. But the 917 will likely be a fun build. I have the lotus 72, looked through the parts, the body is fine, but the engine is just way too shiny. I’ll likely repaint that, do a little weathering, a few more wires and hoses, and enjoy the finished product.

Ixo are selling three packs for €250 each and one for €200. The first six boxes are no longer available (so it's a moot point; Agora is the only way you can buy it now), but based on the pricing of the rest of the kit, that's probably about €400, so probably about €1350 total.

Point being, it's significantly more expensive than the Pocher kit, as well as having limited availability (both in terms of distribution and duration). Hornby have obviously (given their significant institutional knowledge of the hobby) decided that releasing that particular car at that particular price point and level of detail is their best chance at recovering their financial outlay and building Pocher into whatever niche they envision that brand filling in the broader hobby market. I just don't get the outrage in some quarters that a company is releasing a kit that they're not interested in. Particularly when it's a company that has basically been a non-entity for 30-odd years. Like, just pretend that Pocher still don't exist if you don't like the kit. :?
