MFH Brabham BT46B Fan Car
MFH Brabham BT46B Fan Car
Hello Everyone.
After 4 months and 200+ hours of work, just finished the MFH Fan Car. It's my 369th build and one of the worst kits I've done. The only satisfaction in building it was to finally finish ! To start with the positives...the kit is beautifully presented, instructions and decals are very good, as are the mouldings, though not of the small white metal parts. The kit is very detailed, though not as detailed as it could have been..I added a lot of wiring to the instrument panel, cockpit and engine. Without detailing the negatives into an extended rant, let's just say the engineering of the kit was very poor...compared, say, to the later Tamiya 1/12ths [at 4 times the cost!]. The 3mm. screws were asked to do far too much, fuel lines and plug cords were the wrong scale, the engine/gearbox junction was a joke, the front suspension geometry produced large negative camber to the front uprights, the sidepod pipework was 4mm. wider than the body top that was supposed to fit over it [on the MFH build, they actually missed out the offending pipes!], the cockpit box with seat prevented the fitting of the floor until 'dremelled' out. And the wheels and tyres are too big, being 5% too high compared to the original spec of the car. Model builders expect to have to address issues and I understand that, but this was ridiculous. I've done 15 MFH 1/20ths and been very impressed, but I won't be doing any more 1/12th scales! Sorry !

Well despite all the negatives of this kit, it still looks great!! My compliments. I did the 1/20 version and had many fitting issue's as well.

Well you finally got there! Despite all the issues, and these shouldn't be on a kit at this price, the model looks very impressive and I'm sure even better in real life.
Can't wait to see it.

What a beautiful job you did. It's interesting to hear your comments on the kit. I know others have made negative comments about casting quality and weak attachment points.
You said the decals are ok which is contrary to what others have said.
Some of this maybe a by-product of their fast release schedule.
Still a great looking car though.

The decals for the fan-car are fine. Problem is much more the 956. Question is however if the decals are the same quality - but much more easy to apply on the fan-car than the 956.
But to make a long story short the Pictures you show looks fantastic. What a superb job you have made. Even though you did struggle you ended up with a fantastic model. Congratulations.

Despite the issues you describe, the finished result looks stunning. The paintwork especially looks perfect.

369? If you were me, you'd be about 700 years old!
Beyond that - I would have given up by now, so I'm impressed and inspired that you've accomplished such a beautiful build. Congratulations, Rich.
Cheers,
Greg
