Well a couple of weeks turned into about 5 . Glad to be back.vanhookvintage wrote:Will probably be away for a couple of weeks
Getting back at it involved learning new airbrushes and paint systems. Still learning Gravity Colors primers (a little thicker than anything I've airbrushed before, and am getting help from the peeps there), but the colors (using Giallo Modena and Rosso Corsa for this Ferrari) just lay down like silk sheets.
I mentioned somewhere that I've gone back to single action airbrushes (couldn't get used to dual-action) and have a new Iwata single action gravity feed brush, and also got a new Badger (the old standby) 200 gravity feed. Not many gravity feed single action brushes out there.
Will post photos after I get the red on. After a long test session tonight, I am very happy.
G'mar Hatima Tova to those celebrating this day (guess I should be in service instead of the spray booth ).
Cheers,
Greg

Re: Fujimi 1/20 F1 87
I can't believe it's been since September 23, but some work has been going on. Some learning, too. Learning that I need to be more patient, and that no amount of color or clear is going to hide poor preparation. I had such a hard time with the Gravity Colors primers (gray then white) because I didn't realize I should have thinned them first, and that set the stage for problems through the rest of the finishing steps (should have stayed with Tamiya primer). I learned that I'm not really fond of 2-part clear, and that Gaia Clear EX-03 (1-part) thinned from the jar with Tamiya lacquer thinner is as sublime as the Gravity Colors base colors. I clear-coated the wings with Microscale Micro Satin and am really happy with it. So, hopefully, I'm done experimenting and have a toolbox of finishes that I'm comfortable with.
The tub is finished, except for seatbelts and a little touch-up. The M@r!b*r* decals didn't come with the kit. They are F' Artifice that I got from Mac's. The decal sheet included a nice CF decal for the dash and dash bulkhead. The yellow patches on the wings also didn't come with the kit - they're Indycals out of the spares pile. I've decided to build this closed up because the spattered primer on the gas tank top/electronic box area is so horrible it needs to be hidden. The engine cowling will fit better once glued down. So, sorry for going on, here a some photos: I also learned that Fujimi decals don't need a setting solution any stronger than Micro Set, and sometimes that was even too much and water would have been enough.
Hopefully more to come soon, and then I can re-boot on another kit.
Cheers,
Greg
