WIP: Fujimi MP4/27 1/20 early season Hamilton
Received this kit about a month ago and started it right away. Then got frustrated by fit issues and put
it aside. That frustration was mostly removed by decision to make it closed up recently. That way fitment
of panels is less of a problem, because I'm gluing them together upfront. If there is a version of this kit
with engine eventually release by Fujimi, I think it'll be quite problematic to keep a possibility to put body
parts together without significant gaps at later stages.
I used to think it was design problem with Fujimi kits. But looking at the parts of this kit, it seems
that parts were designed well, but some of them seem to have got a bit deformed during manufacturing.
So, now I think there are manufacturing issues with Fujimi kits, which lead to poor fit. Or may be it's a
combination of both.
As with all my builds process starts with test assembly.
MP4/25 looks a lot shorter in comparison. Could be typical size issue with Studio27/Monopost kits.
Next, I've glued together body parts to make a curbside body shell for painting. I've used floor as the
guide for assembly. Also assembled nose cone with front wing supports. For that main plane of front
wing was used as a guide. Last sub-assembly done to date is gearbox with rear crash structure and
some of the suspension arms.
Last couple of pictures are of a mock up of the model in its current state.

Hello Sergey,
I will follow your WIP with great interest as I have this kit also. Normally I ma not a fan of actual F1, but the shape and colors of the MP4/27 (and of course the fact that Fujimi made a plastic kit of it) make me change my point of view.

Watching with interest and hoping to pick up some tips before I start mine.

What paint are you planning to use?
Also you say you decided to close it up. What were you going to leave open before? Were you going to add an engine from a different kit or something?
Looks good. I need to get some paint in order to start on my two.

I have used Alclad's High Polished Aliminum in the past on my MP4/22 and MP4/25. For this one I might try Mirrachrome paintBigasshammm wrote:What paint are you planning to use?

I've got recently. I plan to do more experiments and then decide which one I like more. But chrome paint is not the main issue,
main issue for me is the clear coat. The only clear coat which worked for me so far was Gunze H30. I'm going to experiment with
Alclad's Aqua Gloss Clear this time.
I did not plan to have engine bay open and had no intention to put some engine in there. When I've said "close it up", I meant
pre-assembling body shell before painting and decal application. Usually I paint and decal body shell parts separately and
assemble them at later stages of the build. For this build I plan to paint and decal whole body shell as one piece. That's the
difference.

Looking great so far.
I think this McLaren will be great looking in the shelf. The contrast of the yellow Pirelli logo with the all black tyre/rim and then the chrome of the body makes me want one. But I must be patient... too many on the pile right now...
I wish you the best for this one!
Thanks for sharing this WIP

Re: WIP: Fujimi MP4/27 1/20 early season Hamilton
I finally have an update I can report. I could only manage 5-6 hours of modeling time a week since New Year and that makes my progress
even slower that it was last year I have finished gluing and putting parts before primer could be applied. Mounted parts on toothpicks
(took about 3 hours, btw) and finally sprayed first layers of primer onto most of the parts. I've decided to pre-assemble some winglets for
the front wing, as I see assembly after painting to be quite problematic. It's clear on last picture, which parts I've pre-assembled. I predict
that body and wing parts will require more preparations and likely another layer of primer. Chrome paint needs perfect base surface to
achieve the effect. So, I will likely be working on surface preparations for quite a while longer, and there will be little chance for updates
for a while. Sorry in advance for keeping anyone waiting.
