Model maker research?
Hi all!
I am about to start my Trumpeter GT40 1:12 projekt. I think it is a rather mediocher kit. In comperence with what Tamiya managed to do back in the 60:s with the Lola T70, it is even more poor. I have descided to make it a "curbside" and put my energi on the surface insted. I know that if i should try to make a superdetailed car i have to put so much energi and money in it that it would never be finished. I am going to put that effort in the Lola insted.
Now, the focus will by on the outside/ surface. Paint job, some extra rivets etc will be my goal. The major problems i can see today, are the tyres. First they are pour vinyl casting insted of rubber. That i will let be. No money will be spent on resin. The problem though are the logos. Trumpeter decals are G-Y and not Firestone. This car ran on Firestones in Le Mans 1966. There are some pictures on the net that shows it shoed on G-Y by the podium after the race but i think that was some bitternes from Mr Ford because the "wrong" car won. The #2 was not a American campaign. English built, non American drivers and tyres. Therefore i have to buy some Firestone decals or templates. Even the gold rings on the tyres and the NZ decal on the right front fender are missing. Can you buy these things somewhere? Poor research by Trumpeter i think.
Another poor researches are more surprising. One is the same problem with wrong tyre decals. This time by MFH on the #17 March 711 1:20 from 1971. G-Y again insted of Firestone. This will be the next projekt after the MFH 312PB #86 Watkins Glen i am currently building. Can you buy these Firestones somewhere? By the way MFH missed the Austrailian flags on the nose of the 312. The same with the little airscope in front of the windscreen on that car. These are minor problems but surprisingly made by MFH.
Yours / Dan
